Thanks for teaching us! (親記事) - Candyman

Takeshi-san こんばんは！

土曜日はお忙しい中、TOEIC関係を教えていただきありがとうございました。パート５のポイントなどをアドバイスいただき大変ためになりました。頂いた宿題のリスニングパート１．２をやりました。エッセンスより聞き取り易く感じたのですが、やはり２回、３回目で理解できた問題も多くありました。パート２で一番厄介なのはＡは絶対違う、Ｂも絶対違う、と思い答えはＣだと思い・・記入する準備をしているところでＣも絶対違うことがあり・・お手上げになるときです。Ａは絶対に違うがＢかＣが正解であれば５０％なのですが・・・また。５回以上聞きなおしても、回答が確信を持って１００％にならない問題も２問くらいありました。

パート５ですが宿題の残りをやりましたがdefinitely、probably、maybe、Perhapsな状態でした。definitelyの問題は、felt・・ing
や、thatのあとに（should省略)beなど・・特にPerhapsな問題ですが下記

＊最初はbyかと思ったのですが、１０月の５日間？で考えると・・overですか？

(B) which
(C) his
(D) its

これは単にHoward Industriesのeight outlets 　　答えTheirs ですかね？

来週、再来週と予定があり参加できないのですが、お時間のあるときになぜ？こうなるのか？？をアドバイスいただければと思います。

PS: Saori-san 音楽は胎教によりとされていますよね！英語も良いのでは！TOEIC頑張って下さい。

114と120は正解だと思います。

ただ、128はitsだと思います。

(A) theirsだと、彼らのもの　とか　それらのもの　という様な意味になり、eight outlets（８つの販売店？）に繋がらないと思います。

(B) whichは、意味的にも文法的にも変だし、

(C) his は、通常人間に使われるものであり（犬とか猫に使っているのを聞いたことはありますが果たして正しい用法なのかは…？）、会社には使わないと思うんですね。

(D) its は物に使うと思うので、itsが正解だと思います。
Inc.は株式会社という意味があるので、ハワード株式会社？が経営する８つの販売店をたたむという意味になると思います。

間違っていたら、どなたか指摘してくださいね。

Since my PC is no longer available in Japanese, please excuse me for giving you the feedback on your assignment in English.

First of all, if you listen to some questions in the CD many times (hundreds of times, I say), and still don't catch what are said there, just tell me the numbers of the questions. I will give you the transcription of them.

As for the answers of the questions you asked for, yes, No3-san already gave you the right answers. Thanks.
In 120, you can also say "in a five-day period" or "for a five-day period" as well as "over a five-day period." Remember it is also true in the perfect time tense as in..

I have been learning English in (the past) five years.
I have been learning English over five years.
I have been learning English for five years.

And don't choose "theirs" in 128. "theirs" has to be used independently of the following words, so if you choose it in the sentence, there are two independent words, "theirs" and "eight outlets" which is not only grammatically acceptable, but doesn't make much sense. If you use "their" in that context, however, it could also be the answer as well as "its"

さてTakeshiさん、Candyさん先日はありがとうございました。
お忙しいなか時間を作って頂いて本当に感謝しています。

ところでCandyさん･･･なんて早いんですか･･･。
18日の時点で･･･って事は今はもっと進んでらっしゃるのかな？
質問に書いていらっしゃった事読ませて頂いて私も勉強になりました。
私はといえば、昨日やっとリスニングのレビューをして３と４は辞書を使って何とか･･･ですが、２は聞くしかないのでもっと聞いて完璧にしないとなぁと思っています。

そしてリーディングですが、今日やっと５と６のレビューを終わらせました。。。（現在ｐ.ｍ.11：30眠い･･･）
以下疑問＆判らなかった部分（パート５＆６）を幾つか書いてみたいと思いますのでよろしくお願いします。

前置詞の問題です。辞書調べたら出てくるかなぁと思ったのですが、よくわかりませんでした･･･CかDだとは思うのですが･･･
英英辞典の例文ではinで書いてあったのでinかな???

A.subscribed B.submitted C.subdued D.substituted
はじめはB.submittedだと思ったのですが、よく考えるとA.subscribedでもいけるのかな???と思ったり･･･でも（）のあとにto the planningって続いているのでやっぱりsubscribedではおかしい??かな?

A.indicated B.indicating C.indicate D.have indicated
多分Bだと思うのですが･･･。
documentがあなたのacceptanceをindicatingしている･･･???でいいのかな??

Candyさんが質問されてた問題と似ているのですが、（しかもこないだ教えて頂いたのですが･･･汗）Aだと思うのですが、でもBでも良いのではないか･･･??と思えてきて、判らなくなってしました。

これはCだと思うのですが合っていますでしょうか??

形容詞なのでしょうか?形容詞の場合訳すとどんな意味になるのでしょうか??

これは全く判らなかったです。あなたの次の請求書が発行されるまでには･･･なのでBかなぁとも思ったりもしますが、billの次に名詞がきて請求書発行となってもいいのかな（だとすればC??）などと思ったりして、どう考えていいのか判らなかったです。

How are you feeling these days? It's great to keep working hard on the test, but don't overdo it ok? Your health must come first. Anyway let me answer these questions.

113:
When you use "on" in that context, the following word has to be something electrical, which means electric or electronic devices, as such TV, radio, or Internet. "in" on the other hand, is used with a traditional means of communication, such as Newspapers or magazines. Therefore the asnwer should be "in"

The article in (a newspaper, a book, or a magazine)
The article on (the internet, the radio, or TV)

117:
You are right. Apart from the meaning of the sentence, "be subscribed to something" is grammatically unacceptable.

"Someone (subcribe to) something" is the original form.

and note that the sentence for the question is used in the "passive voice."

Something is subcribed to (by someone)

"something" already comes in the front with "be subsribed to", so "the planning division" is gramatically redundant.

130:
You are right again :)

The document indecates your acceptance.

In this sentance, you can't use a "simple verb form" because a verb's already used there. Therefore, you should use "ing form" to create one object.

(ex)
Look at the cat
the cat is bitting a mouse.
Look at (the cat bitting a mouse)= one object.

131:
I'm sorry but it should be "by"
As I told you last Saturday, they are different.
let's think about it with some examples below.

(1)I sent the letter until the due day.
(2)I sent the letter by the due day.

The both COULD be ok, but (1) doesn't make much sense really. It could mean "I sent the letter, but because the due day came, I decided not to send the letter"

Is that what 130 really means?

"In sipte of some problems, the package was sent "until" the due day, and they decided to stop sending it because the due day finally came"

Let's think how "until" should be used now.

(1)I studied English until 3 o'clock

(1) I studied English until 3...but because it was 3 then, I dicided to stop studying.

Let me give you a tip to tell the difference.

by: completion

it is usually used with the following verbs
(submit,finish,complete,return,deliver,register)

until: continuation

ued with verbs below
(wait,continue,stay,remain,last, open)

hmmm.. I wish I could explain in Japanese so that you could probably understand it much more easily, but my pc is not available in Japanese. Sorry, it's getting too long, so I'll stop here and start later again.

I don't think it is so hard.

somebody (postpone) a meeting
a meeting (is postponed)(by someone)

The subject in the sentence is "the monthly board meeting" so the "postphone" should be in the form of the passive voice.

141 (B)
Don't spend so much time on this question. you try to solve it within 5 seconds for this kind of the question

Both A and B
either A or B
not only A but (also) B
neither A nor B

142 (D)
That's a hard one, so I left the mark on the test paper. But what I meant by "hard" is not difficult but you need to read the context carefully to find the right answer.
In the passage, it starts with "first".. and "then".. and "next". and then, after blank, it says "the results..." indicating the following sentence is some kind of conclusion. Therefore "finally" is the right word for it.

146 (C)

the "involved" is a kind of adjective, such as "get excited" or "get interested"

so in order to modify an adjective, you need to use a adverb. The "too" has nothing to do with the answer you need. As for the meaning of the sentence,

(and you) remember (the biggest mistake is getting too emotionally involved)=an obeject for the "remember"

note that "by the time" is one subjunction such as "as soon as" or " as far as"

早速詳しい解説を頂きありがとうございます。

なるほど!!!!!です。
（113に関して）新聞や本などはｉｎでＴＶやインターネットなどはｏｎなんですね。勉強になります!!
byとuntilに関してですが、詳しい説明ありがとうございました。
byは完了の事柄について、untilは継続する事柄について･･･
覚えておきます!！untilは～までという継続の意味を表すので、今回のような“期限までに”届いたという文章に使うのは意味的に変なのですね（多分）で、前回教えて頂いたようにbyはある一定の期間内のある時点でという意味（何か変な文章･･･）なので、期限までのどこかの時点で届いたのでby。
（私なりの解釈ですが･･･）同じ事を教えて頂いてたのに、理解してなくってほんとすみません･･･（汗）

146もよく判りました!!ありがとうございました。involvedは～な状態で（？）的な意味で形容詞として働いていて、emotionallyはその形容詞を修飾するので副詞である必要がある。と理解をしてみました。

最後の149ですが、by the timeは接続詞（??かな）だとしたら答えはもしかして　is issued(B)なのかしら?と思ってみたのですが･･･。う～ん…すみません。
ここだけ判らなかったです。
申し訳ありません。

さて、お蔭様で変わりない毎日を送っていますが、
確かに昨日はちょっと頑張りすぎてしまいました；（反省･･･）
体やﾍﾞﾋﾞの事を第一に頑張りすぎず、頑張りたいと思います。
